Let the scorecard tell you more than just the score
6/1/2010 12:00:00 AM by W5 SuperUser

After a round of golf, scores are added up, bets are paid, and the scorecard - the best game improvement tool there is - is thrown out without ever being used to help our games.  Scorecards can provide more information than the number of strokes per hole.  To improve, we need to know the how as well as the how many.

The next 5 rounds enter the following information on your scorecard:

  1. Number of fairways hit with your drive.  If you missed was it to the left or right
  2. Number of greens in regulation.  If you missed was it to the left or right
  3. Number of "sand saves" and chip shots where you only needed one putt to finish.
  4. Number of putts per hole.

This information can tell you the weak areas of your game that you need to work on when your on the practice tee.
